In light of the recent reductions and delays in SNAP benefits and other food-assistance programs, we want to reassure everyone in our community: we see you; we care, and we’re here for you.
At the Mission we provide hot meals to those in our adult shelter, recovery services, and family shelter. We do not operate a traditional on-site food bank for public grocery distribution. Instead, our model is strategic: we collect donated groceries through our partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank of the Pacific Northwest’s Grocery Rescue program and then distribute those groceries to nine trusted partners across the region. This allows us to leverage our resources effectively and support the broader system of food-assistance providers.
Our partner agencies include:
- Crosspoint Church (Yakima/Wiley City) – https://www.crosspointyak.church/
- Granger Food Bank (Granger) – https://www.foodpantries.org/li/wa_granger-food-bank
- The Pantry at Moxee (Moxee/Terrace Heights) – https://www.facebook.com/thepantryatmoxee/
- St. Vincent Center Food Bank (Union Gap) – https://catholiccharitiescw.org/st-vincent
- Yakima Seventh‑Day Adventist Food Bank (Yakima) – https://yakimasda.org/food-bank/
- Selah Naches Food Bank (Selah/Naches) – https://selahnachesfoodbank.org/
- McKinley Indian Reservation Food Pantry (Yakima area) – https://foodfinder.2-harvest.org/locations/mckinley-indian-mission?q=98948%20
- Tampico Community Church Food Pantry – https://maps.app.goo.gl/vtBFyogarZbAC6MM7
- Madison House Youth Center – https://www.facebook.com/MadisonHouseYakima/
By coordinating groceries in this way, we help strengthen the entire network of food-access providers across our region and ensure that donated food goes where it’s most needed.
What this means for individuals and families in need:
- If you’re in our Adult Shelter, recovery program, or Family Shelter program, you continue to receive hot meals from us directly.
- If you are an adult (age 18 or older) seeking a hot meal, you are welcome to come to our Adult Shelter. Check-in for dinner is from 4:00–5:30 p.m. at 1220 N. 1st Street, with dinner served at 6:00 p.m.
- If you’re seeking grocery-type food resources, we encourage you to contact one of the partner pantries above. They each serve different neighborhoods and schedules, so please call or verify open times ahead.
- If you’re a donor, sponsor or community partner: your contributions matter. By directing food, funds, or volunteer efforts to the YUGM’s participation in the Grocery Rescue program and/or our partner agencies, you help serve more people efficiently and respectfully.
We’re here for you.
Food insecurity is real and urgent, especially now. We want to walk with you, support you, and connect you with the resources you need. If you have specific needs or questions, please feel free to reach out to us at info@yugm.org or 509-248-4510.
Thank you to our community for rallying together – neighbors helping neighbors, hands joined in hope and action. We invite you to continue to share this message so that no one in our region feels alone in their need.
