From Those In Need…Can U Pitch in? started by community activist, Dale Carpenter in 1996 and then took over by fellow Rotarian David McKinney and the Roteract Club, this long standing event has the same mission, to raise awareness and support for those that need it most.
Staff from YUGM will be camping outside for 60 hours starting at 10am on Friday December 6th until 10pm Sunday December 8th at Wray’s Market Fresh IGA on Summitview and 56th Ave, collecting money and food and clothing items for those staying at the mission.
As the winter months temperatures drop, more individuals and families seek shelter out of the elements. Already, housing approximately 120 individuals in the evening, guest count at the mission is already getting close the peak of the frigid temperatures seen last winter.
Visiting the YUGM staff camping out this weekend at the grocery store is a wonderful way to learn more about the mission’s programs and services provided in Yakima. More than just soup kitchen and place to stay for the night, YUGM offers residential recovery programs, a family shelter, and a Care Center offering medical and dental services on its seven-acre campus on North First Street.
For over 88 years, YUGM, a faith-based community of people, continues to be focused on helping impoverished and homeless people and see their lives transformed.
